#divlje životinje

epa05812378 A lone Sri Lankan wild elephant (Elephas maximus maximus) sprays its body with dust to avoid insects at the Udawalawe Wildlife, around 176 kms from Colombo, Sri Lanka, 24 February 2017. The Sri Lankan elephant, one of three recognized subspecies of the Asian elephant and native to Sri Lanka, was listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 1986, the population has declined since by at least 50 percent over the last three generations. Although increasingly threatened by habitat loss, degradation and fragmentation and human encroachments into their habitats, a number are still seen at the Udawalawe, Yala, Lunugamvehera, Wilpattu and Minneriya National Parks. A study by Sri Lankan volunteers in 2011 has estimated the population at 5,879 on the basis of a count at water holes in the dry season. EPA/M.A.PUSHPA KUMARA------ZADNJA, 4 stupca
