Un fauteuil roulant monte-escalier qui permet également à l'utilisateur de tenir debout a été développé par des ingénieurs Pictures MUST credit: KIMM A stair-climbing wheelchair which also stands up the user for face-to-face conversations, said to be a world first, has been developed by engineers. The design also places a strong emphasis on user comfort and adaptability. The electric powered wheelchair, developed by the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, has a central platform equipped with a stair-climbing module located at the bottom and a standing module on top. When the user encounters a flight of stairs, the stair-climbing module is lowered while maintaining the wheelchair's horizontal level. It utilises fa pair of rubber caterpillar tracks that give a anon-slip grip the edge of the stairs supported by the chair's wheels. It allows the user to tackle the staircase one step at a time without compromising safety. It works the same way when descending a staircase. The stair-climbing module is designed to stay retracted within the chair when not needed. The standing module transitions between various postures, including standing, reclining, leaning backwards or leaning forward. Photo: JLPPA/Bestimage/BESTIMAGE
