Nagasaki Mayor Shiro Suzuki reiterated on 08 August 2024 not to invite Israel for the 79th Nagasaki Peace Ceremony and announced that the ambassadors of the United States, five European countries and the EU will not attend the ceremony. Ambassadors from the United States, Britain, Canada, Germany, Italy and the EU have sent a letter to the mayor mid-July that they will not attend the peace memorial ceremony marking the 79th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki if Israel is excluded.
