Šafran, najskuplji začin na svijetu, jedan je od glavnih izvoznih proizvoda Afganistana, gdje je ovih dana počela žetva. Očekuje se kako će ovogodišnji urod porasti za 30 posto u odnosu prema prošloj godini, rekli su proizvođači. Šafran je uzgojen na oko 9000 hektara, od čega se gotovo 90 posto nalazi u pokrajini Herat. Ove godine prognoze predviđaju urod od oko 40 tona šafrana, a velika većina namijenjena je izvozu u druge zemlje.
